We are not accustomed to waiting in this present day. The tradition of the Advent wreath invites us to anticipate lighting a new candle for each Sunday in Advent.
I can still remember our mom gathering us around the dinner table to celebrate this tradition. It speaks to me of waiting, of longing for the birth of Christ.
I often wonder what Mary was thinking as She waited for the birth of our Savior. What joy and expectation must have filled Her heart! I can almost hear Her say to all of us, “wait with me” and think of the beautiful song by Catholic artist Susan Bailey with this same title. Maybe this season, we can slow down, and ponder as Mary did, this holy season of Advent. A time of preparation, a time of waiting.
