Several times in scripture it is recorded that Jesus wept. I can only imagine with His great love for us, and as He drew away quietly in prayer with God the Father, there were even more tears.
How can love Himself, not cry today at seeing so much violence, bloodshed, and crimes against children?
Recently, my husband and I visited the memorial site for victims of the Oklahoma City bombing at the Murrah Federal Building.
The most striking image of all, was the large statue of Jesus with His right hand covering His face as in deep grief. The white stone of the statue provided a stark contrast to the brilliant blue sky.
How can we, as His children, comfort Him in these tears of sorrow?
If we would only listen to His words. “Love one another, as I have loved you.” “Bear one another’s burdens,” “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
It all sounds so simple, yet wars are started by the lack of love in our own hearts.
Help us Lord to overcome the occasional temptation to turn away, and become self-focused. Help us to turn our eyes to You so we may turn our hands to help others.
We cannot bear your tears.
